Halloween-time is one of our favorite holidays. Barb likes to watch lots of horror movies, more and more as we approach Halloween. This month we started out having trouble finding good things to watch, but then we started doing better and better.
WE HAVE ALREADY WATCHED, THIS MONTH:
–2006 JANE EYRE miniseries (hey, it’s gothic)! We started with her meeting Rochester and skipped over everything when her boring cousins were on the screen.
–CHOPPING MALL: super fun!
–MY BLOODY VALENTINE (Director’s Cut): Now with more blood and death!
–J.D.’S REVENGE! Aretha Franklin’s husband and Lou Gossett Jr. save a Blaxploitation ghost horror from being trash with their excellent performances.
–SOLE SURVIVOR: super-excellent!
–Cinematic Titanic riffing THE WASP WOMAN: yay, riffing!
–BURNT OFFERINGS, from the producer guy and the music guy who did the original DARK SHADOWS television show.
–DON’T BOTHER TO KNOCK: maybe Marilyn Monroe’s best performance.
–DON’T GO TO SLEEP: A specter is haunting Rhoda! Unless insanity just runs in the family!
–MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH: Vincent Price!
–THE PSYCHIC (a.k.a. SEVEN NOTES IN BLACK a.k.a. MURDER TO THE TUNE OF SEVEN BLACK NOTES): super-awesome hair!
–DEEP RED (a.k.a. PROFUNDO ROSSO): super-awesome!
–SUSPIRIA (1977, of course): super-colorful!
–The end of TRILOGY OF TERROR! The only worthwhile part of TRILOGY OF TERROR! With the voluptuous horror of Karen Black! (It’s a reference!)
–THE HAUNTING! Never gets old! Never!
Then we got specifically into Folk Horror with:
–CAT PEOPLE! Meow! Moja sestra!
–HORROR AT 37,000 FEET: Shatner on a plane!
–THE STONE TAPE: by Nigel Kneale!
–HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH: Technically does not have any witches! But it does have the two-fisted protagonist I called “Dr. Biff Hardslab!” and a cute and spunky gal love interest! It was my first time seeing it! (Not Barb’s.)
WHAT WE HAVE PLANNED FOR THE NEXT 36 HOURS:
MAYBE:
–THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW maybe! (Always synched up with the audience Par-tic-i-pation recording!)
AND ALSO MAYBE:
–CRYING BLUE SKY/EYES OF FIRE! Super-awesome folk horror!
–CARNIVAL OF SOULS! Super-awesome!
–DOLLS! Never gets old! Never!
–GINGER SNAPS! Yikes! Moja sestra!
BUT DEFINITELY:
–HALLOWEEN (1978, blu-ray) PLUS the two movies that are on TV that the kids in the movie are watching: THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD and FORBIDDEN PLANET!
–THE FOG, PLUS the movie THE FOG totally rips off: RETURN OF THE BLIND DEAD!
(By the way, it’s not too late to have a spooky book to read this Halloween! How about SONG TO THE SIREN, by me and Barb?

This Parktober, Park and Barb invite YOU to join them in enjoying some of the many spooky movies on this list! Almost all of them (except The Fog) we found somewhere online, or else streaming through Disney+, Amazon Prime, or HBOMax! Happy Parktober!
